A Bad Start.

At the Dover Police Court on Friday before the Mayor (in the chair) Mr F. G. Wright Mr J. W. Bussey and Mr E. Chitty. William Edward Dobson, 4 Churchill Street a bath-chair attendant was charged with being drunk and disorderly in the High Street.

P.C. Baker said that the previous night the defendant was drunk opposite the Town Hall being held up by two other men. He shouted out “goodnight old policeman.”

Witness advised him to go home quietly and followed him up the street defendant called after witness and made disgusting noises. Although he was given every chance to get away he refused to be quiet so witness had to be taken into custody. He then asked to be let go but witness told him it was too late.

The Chairman remarked that it was an extremely sad case especially as the defendant was only 17 years of age. His father would be bound over in the sum of £5 to guarantee his good behaviour for twelve months. On the Magistrates advice defendant agreed to sign the pledge.
