Refractory Unfortunate

By Beata

Kate Murray an unfortunate was brought up in custody of Police Constable Hooper of the Metropolitan Police for having conducted herself in a disorderly manner and broken several panes of glass at the house appointed for the examination of unfortunate woman under the Contagious Diseases Act.

It appeared that the defendant after being examined had been ordered for removal for hospital, but she declined to go and on being detained against her will she conducted herself in the way described committing the damage in question.

There seemed no desire to press the charge of wilful damage against her and as she now expressed herself willing to comply with the order of the Medical Officer she was removed in the charge of the police.  She was informed however that such conduct was punishable by imprisonment and that it was the duty of woman situated like herself to comply with the order of the Medical Officer.
